Overview
Humans vs. Zombies Tag is a week-long game of tag played outdoors on many college campuses. I helped coordinate the games throughout the year on University of Washington Seattle campus. It's a completely extracurricular activity, and I put a lot of effort to promote, explain, and manage the game in the weeks prior and the game week itself. The game takes place one week per quarter, every quarter (three games a school year). The club almost always supports games with at least 500 players, and in a few instances, we managed to have over 1000 players in quarter!
Pre-Game
- Public relations during game signups and managing booth operations, including:
- Booth material transport, set-up, and take-down
- Designing and distributing promotional material to on-campus dormitories
- Frequently explaining rules to potential new players, sometimes dozens at a time
- Ensuring steady supply of required game materials (note cards, bandannas, change)
- Promoting the game through social media (Facebook)
- Helped create and adjust game policies, and general game management
- Attended officer meetings to discuss player safety and anti-cheating rules
- Communication with faculty and campus police to adjust safety rules and avoid conflicting regulations or conduct
During Game
- Maintaining game rules throughout the week
- Ensuring and addressing player/pedestrian safety concerns (jaywalking, running through crowds, injuring others, etc.)
- Making announcements to respective player groups if rules are not maintained
- Managed player conflicts in situations where rules were not applicable or did not cover the situation
- Responsible for addressing player concerns
- Responding quickly to player questions on Facebook and in-person
- Quickly communicating important news to other Officers and players in emergency situations (fire drills during game)
- Collecting feedback about general game rules or missions to better balance gameplay
- Hosted mission events for large-scale player gameplay
- "Referee" duty to ensure player groups abide by rules during events
